Texas A&M University System Board of Regents appoints new president for Texas A&M University–Victoria

Christian E. Hardigree, J.D., has been named the first president of Texas A&M University–Victoria. 

Hardigree will help advance the university’s mission of academic excellence and regional engagement across the Coastal Bend and Crossroads regions. A&M–Victoria became the 12th university in The Texas A&M University System on Sept. 1. Hardigree previously served as regional chancellor of the University of South Florida St. Petersburg campus. 

Rio Grande City announces new executive director for Economic Development Corporation

Melinda Gomez has been appointed executive director of the Rio Grande City  Economic Development Corporation (EDC).

The EDC works to promote economic growth through partnerships with local businesses and regional organizations to position Rio Grande City as a center of opportunity in the Rio Grande Valley. As executive director, Gomez will focus on attracting new business while supporting local entrepreneurs. She previously served as communications coordinator for the EDC, expanding its digital presence and small-business outreach. 

Corpus Christi–Nueces County Health District selects new director

Dr. Anita Kurian has been named director of the Corpus Christi–Nueces County Public Health District, effective Oct. 20.

Kurian will oversee population-level health initiatives serving more than 360,000 residents. She brings extensive experience managing complex public-health programs from her previous role as assistant director of the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District.

Center ISD welcomes interim superintendent 

Jake Henson has been appointed interim superintendent for Center ISD, effective July 30.

Henson will oversee district operations and collaborate with the school board to ensure student success. A 25-year veteran of Center ISD, he has served as assistant superintendent, principal, and teacher. He holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University.

CapMetro selects new chief of transit police

RenEarl Bowie has been named chief of transit police for CapMetro.

Bowie will lead the Transit Police’s community-policing initiatives, focusing on rider safety and engagement across the transit network. He brings more than 30 years of law-enforcement leadership, including key roles with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

City of Shenandoah announces resignation of city administrator

Kathie Reyer is stepping down from her position as city administrator for the city of Shenandoah.

Henson will oversee district operations and collaborate with the school board to ensure student success. A 25-year veteran of Center ISD, he has served as assistant superintendent, principal, and teacher. He holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University.
