Renewable energy funding is flowing and many electrification projects, currently in planning stages, reflect a commitment to cleaner air, power efficiency, and sustainability in energy sources nationwide.

Massachusetts DOT approves $18.5B capital plan for transit, roads and bridges

MassDOT has approved an $18.5 billion, five-year Capital Investment Plan spanning 2026–2030. The plan funds major highway, rail and transit upgrades, including $1 billion for MBTA projects and $1.1 billion for Cape Cod bridge replacements.

Army Corps of Engineers accepting proposals for over $400M Trinity River bypass project in Fort Worth

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is now accepting contractor proposals for the bypass portion of Fort Worth’s $1.17 billion Central City flood control project. Key components include the construction of a 1.5-mile bypass channel to redirect to Trinity River. Proposal submissions are open through fall 2025, with construction slated for spring 2026.

UNC Asheville announces $200M South Campus development plan with new soccer stadium, housing

UNC Asheville is seeking private developers for a $200+ million transformation of its 45-acre South Campus. Phase one includes a multi-use stadium with Asheville City SC, mixed-use housing, retail and childcare. The development seeks to ease housing shortages and boost community engagement and sustainability.

Indiana signs new tolling law, authorizing additional revenues for road construction, maintenance

Indiana is the first state to authorize tolling on all interstate highways, allowing officials to seek federal waivers without legislative approval. The law also offers tax credits for railroad investments and new county funding tools, seeking to address declining gas tax revenue and improve infrastructure quality.

Navy issues RFI in preparation for $250M submarine pier expansion in Washington

The U.S. Navy is seeking partners for an up-to-$250 million project to extend a concrete pier at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor. The expansion will berth advanced submarines, add a crane, specialized buildings and advanced utilities. An RFI is open as the project remains in planning stages.

Fargo seeks public-private partnership for $41M convention center development

Fargo, North Dakota is seeking public-private partners to develop a $41 million convention center, featuring a new exhibit hall, a ballroom, meeting spaces and a full kitchen. Plans also include parking structures and an adjacent 150–200 room hotel.

California - Dina El-Tawansy has been appointed as the new director of the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). Tawansy brings over 25 years of experience with Caltrans to the role and in her new position, she will oversee more than 50,000 miles of California's highway and freeway lanes and a budget of nearly $18 billion.

Maryland - Khalil Zaied has been appointed as the deputy mayor of operations for the city of Baltimore. Zaied brings over 18 years of experience with the city to the role and currently serves as the director of the Department of Public Works.

Georgia - Luke Doremus has been appointed as the vice president for Commercial at Ports America. Doremus brings over 20 years of experience with Ports America to the role and as vice president, he will lead the company’s commercial strategy across the Container, Roll-on/Roll-off and Breakbulk segments.

California - Cheryl Cotton has been selected as the new superintendent for the West Contra Costa Unified School District. Cotton currently serves as Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction at the California Department of Education and steps into the role following the retirement of Kenneth “Chris” Hurst.

Massachusetts - Gaspare LoDuca has been appointed as the new CIO for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, effective in August. LoDuca currently serves as the CIO for Columbia University and in his new role, he will oversee technology infrastructure for student and administrative systems, network operations, cloud services, cybersecurity and customer support.

Virginia - Todd Horsley has been named the next CEO of the Centre Area Transportation Authority, effective July 15. Horsley brings over 24 years of experience in public sector transportation to the role and most recently served as the director of Northern Virginia transit programs with the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation.

Georgia - Andrew Heath has been appointed deputy commissioner for Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). Heath has spent 17 years with the department and in his new role, he will provide leadership to over half of GDOT's 4,000 employees and an operational budget exceeding $4 billion.

Arkansas - Wes Milam has been appointed as the director of Public Safety Communications for the city of Fort Smith. Milam brings over 20 years of experience in the Fort Smith Police Department and in his new role, he will oversee the River Valley Communications Center, a regional consolidated 911 dispatch hub for police, fire, and EMS services.

Missouri - Brenton Siverly has been selected as the new deputy director of Finance for Kansas City. He most recently served as Director of Finance for the Schools of Nursing and Health Professions at the University of Kansas Medical Center and as deputy director, he will lead the City’s Budget and Revenue Divisions and oversee long-term financial strategy, tax administration, and revenue forecasting.

Hawaii - Kasie Kaleohano has been appointed as the new superintendent of the Hilo-Waiākea Complex Area. Kaleohano currently serves as the deputy superintendent of the Hilo-Waiākea Complex and brings over 30 years of experience in Hawaii public education to the role.

Tennessee - Suzy Hollenbach has been appointed as the new director of Memphis Animal Services. Hollenbach brings over 15 years of experience in animal welfare to the role and founded the outreach organization “All 4s Rescue League,” which provides general necessities and assistance for local pet owners.

North Carolina - David Pearce has been appointed as the new superintendent for Johnston County Public Schools, effective July 1. Pearce brings over 23 years of experience in education and currently serves as the assistant superintendent of Administrative and Auxiliary Services.
